President Obama to Deliver Keynote at Human Rights Campaign Annual Dinner

In a climate of dissention over whether he has done enough to fulfill his promises to the LGBT community, President Obama will give the keynote address at the Human Rights Campaign’s 13th Annual National Dinner on Saturday, October 10th, in Washington, D.C.  At the same event, U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy will also present the first-ever Edward M. Kennedy National Leadership Award to Judy and Dennis Shepard. Amid news that the president’s top military officials have suggested elimination of the controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that has resulted in a net loss of LGBT military personnel, Obama’s talk is sure to be historic. Many in the LGBT community hope that it will provide an prime opportunity for President Obama to announce a reversal of the failed military policy.
