Committee Assignments

Appointed Committees

In 2009, I serve as Vice Chair of the Facilities and Infrastructure Committee (F&I), which is responsible for  Facilities, Bridges and Highways, Airport, Solid Waste/Recycling, Public Works Administration, Weights and Measures, Utilities, and the Public Health Department Building Subcommittee. The current membership of this committee consists of Leslyn McBean-Clairborne (Chair), myself (Vice Chair), Dooley Kiefer, Mike Sigler and Duane “Tyke” Randall. The F&I Committee meets on the third Thursday of every month at 3:30 p.m.

I also serve as a member of the Budget, Capital and Finance Committee, with Jim Dennis (Chair), Mike Hattery (Vice Chair), Nathan Shinagawa and Pam Mackesey. This committee is currently responsible for Appropriations, Borrowing and Debt Service, Contingent Funds, Fund Balances, Unallocated Revenues, Budget process, Fiscal Policies, Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3), Capital Programs and the Finance Department. The Budget Committee meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at 3:30 pm.

This year marks the fourth year that I have been appointed to serve on the Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Committee (WDIC), chaired by Leslyn McBean-Clairborne. The WDIC is a dynamic group that embodies Tompkins County’s commitment to creating a diverse and fully inclusive workplace to strengthen our organization and enhance our ability to adapt to change.

Among the WDIC committee’s many accomplishments to date are gaining approval for the Tompkins County Diversity Statement and Policy Guidelines, as well as supporting and implementing diversity training.

The committee has collaborated with area diversity-related organizations such as the Tompkins County Diversity Consortium, and the Skilled Trades Diversity Consortium. WDIC meets on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 3:30 pm.

While County and local governments are once again challenged to do more with less, employees are having to cope with successive years of diminishing resources even as the need for services increase. This year I was appointed to the Legislative Direct Report Review Committee which is conducting personal dialogues with Legislative direct reports and gathering information from selected stakeholders to assist these vital employees in maintaining and improving service to Tompkins County and its residents.
